Why Tokyo?
Tokyo Metropolis
Tokyo, or officially Tokyo Metropolis, is the capital of Japan and one of the most popular destinations in the world — you've either visited it or are longing to visit it.
Tokyo is known for iconic landmarks like the Tokyo Skytree and Shibuya Crossing. It's famous for its sakura tree-lined streets, shrines and temples, its otaku culture and wonderful cuisine, and its world-class transport system. It's a quirky city that combines millennia-old traditions with futuristic technology.
CAFES
My favorite cafes in Tokyo
Starbucks Reserve Roastery
Located in Nakameguro by the Meguro River, this is one of the largest Starbucks roasteries in the world. The vast space – with 1,200sqm stretching four floors – houses the roasting factory on the top floor, the Arriviamo cocktail bar on the third floor and the Teavana tea room on the second, while the first floor is taken over by the Milanese bakery Princi, famous for its cronuts and focaccia pizza.
Address:
2-19-23 Aobadai, Meguro, Tokyo
What I like about it
Beautiful, huge building with several floors great coffee and snacks as you would expect. A very different selection of coffee and food than in regular stores, give it a go!
Learn moreHana Biyori Starbucks
Tokyo’s newest Starbucks outlet has finally opened inside the Hana Biyori greenhouse, which is part of a larger garden managed by the popular amusement park, Yomiuriland. Especially during the rainy season, when the weather is unpredictable and sudden downpours are not uncommon, this new café is a great place to enjoy greenery over a cup of coffee while keeping dry.
Address:
4015-1 Yanokuchi, Inagi, Tokyo
What I like about it
The open, light-filled space is a breath of fresh air. The lush, comfortable atmosphere has plenty of greenery to calm your mind. It's like walking into a floral fantasy of your dreams.
Learn moreGranny Smith
Missing grandma's apple pie? The next best thing can be found at Granny Smith's, located just a few minutes from Omotesando Station. The classic menu includes Dutch Crumble, Classic Rum Raisin, French D'mandes and English Custard, while the seasonal pies (yes to sakura!) are equally mouth-watering. Their Aoyama shop also has an eat-in space, a sparse food menu and decent espresso.
Address:
5-8-9 Minamiaoyama, Minato, Tokyo
What I like about it
This is a cute, cozy little café where you can enjoy different varieties of apple pie with coffee, tea, juices, etc. They do take out orders and you can buy whole pies or individual slices.
